Eight miles of carrots have been planted on two acres of the 78th Street site to help feed families in need. The first harvest produced nearly 1,500 pounds of orange bounty. The carrots were distributed to food pantries across the county, providing a pound of fresh vegetables to 1,500 families. Over the course of the summer another five tons of carrots will be harvested, feeding 10,000 more families.

Harvest information
A total of over 25,000 pounds of carrots have been harvested as of September 24. This is about half the final harvest weight!

Plot information
Gardening plots are 20 x 20 feet. Plots are allocated in a random drawing of entrants. One plot per family. The 78th St. Community Garden is an interim organic garden. We are operating year to year - nothing is guaranteed for the 2010 season.
