Animal Protection and Control shifts the emphasis of the Enhanced Patrol Program between public parks in the spring/summer months and school playgrounds and children's bus stops in the fall/winter months. The purpose of the program is to provide for the public safety and community livability through an increased animal control presence in these areas.
On a weekly basis five animal control units are assigned to a specific area for the purpose of enforcing animal control ordinances. Officers will be looking for violations of the mandatory leash, aggressive behavior, and scoop laws. These violations are misdemeanors punishable upon conviction by not more than one year in jail and/or a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars. Patrols will also occur outside standard hours of operation, and cover all seven days of the week. Additionally, non-uniformed personnel will conduct patrols in support of uniformed animal control officers.
Effective dates:
PARKS (Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation)
April through August
REGIONAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS/BUS STOPS
September through March
Purpose:
To provide for the safety of people, animals, and community livability through increased animal control presence within public and student areas of recreation.
What it means:
- On a weekly bases five (5) Animal Control units are assigned to aspecific public park, hiking trail, public meeting area, or an area school.
- Patrols will also occur outside standard hours of operation, and cover all seven (7) days per week.
- Additionally, non-uniformed personnel will conduct patrols in support of the uniformed officers.
Types of violations they will be looking for:
- Leash law
- Aggressive behavior
- Scoop law violations
Any of these violations is a misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by not more than one(1) year in jail and/or a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars($1,000).
