The department provides information on population, housing, employment, income, and other statistical data in Southwest Washington. It serves as a regional state data center affiliate with the U.S. Census Bureau and assists in collecting and distributing federal census information for the region. The department responds to hundreds of telephone and over-the-counter requests for information from the general public, students, government agencies, and local businesses. Demographics and related services are managed by the Geographic Information System division of the Department of Assessment & GIS.
