Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s finance team is calling for “strict budget discipline” to keep operations stable and the general fund sound, in a proposal set for public hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3.

By law, the Board of County Commissioners must update the budget previously adopted for 2013-2014. The Board will consider staff recommendations at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., sixth-floor hearing room.

Budget Manager Bob Stevens said few changes are proposed in operations or services.

However, Community Development is requesting authority to spend dedicated building funds to add inspectors, plans examiners, permit staff and clerical help.

“We’re seeing a continuing increase in the number of people doing business in the permit center,” said department director Marty Snell. “Our request is a response to market demand for quicker turnaround time from permits to inspections.”

Snell said the proposal would add hours at the permit center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but would not restore staffing to pre-recession levels. “Overall, the economy is improving slowly,” he said. “We’re being very measured in restoring services.”
