The Center’s investigative unit is comprised of six specially trained law enforcement detectives and one sergeant from both county (Clark County Sheriff’s Office) and city (Vancouver Police Department) jurisdictions responsible for conducting comprehensive investigations based upon suspected child abuse reports. During an investigation, the CJC detectives work closely with the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) social workers on safety planning for the child, which may include foster care placement if home safety risks are too high. Two DCFS social workers work at the center to increase coordination.
Detective reports are forwarded to the CJC Prosecution Unit for review and consideration for criminal charging to protect the child and the community from perpetrators of child abuse.
