Bite Prevention

Dog bites injure more than 4.7 million people each year, with children the most common victim. Most dog bite injuries can be prevented through public education and responsible dog ownership.

Animal Protection and Control provides dog bite prevention training for schools, service groups, public agencies, and other interested parties. Each year Animal Control Officers respond to approximately 240 reports of animal bites and 1,400 reports of vicious behavior by dogs.

The Bite Prevention Program reduces the number of dog bites by training people to avoid animal attacks. Animal Control Officers also will discuss how to reduce the chances of being attacked if you find yourself in a high-risk situation.

The training is available to individuals and organizations of all ages. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation, contact: Adrienne Willows at (360) 397-2375 ext. 5852.

Animal Protection and Control has developed a presentation for kindergarten through 5th grade children. The presentation provides common sense tips to avoid dog bites. Notes are included within the presentation as a guide for the presenter.

Please feel free to download this presentation and use for your organization's public outreach. The first slide can be changed to reflect your organization's name. Animal Protection and Control requests that no alterations be made to slide 37.
