Some of the complaints Code Enforcement follows up on that fall into the building category are:
- Construction without a permit - all construction projects with a material value over $1,500 require a building permit. Exemptions include buildings used 100% for agricultural purposes.
- Occupancy without final occupancy approval - it is a violation of code to move into a building without a certificate of occupancy. A certificate of occupancy ensures all the required inspections have been conducted and approved.
- Drainage and erosion problems to adjacent property as a result of new construction.
- Dangerous structures - includes abandoned buildings that are open and accessible that have become an attractive place for children or vagrants to enter, and buildings that due to lack of maintenance are determined by the Health Department to be unsuitable for human habitation.
