Archaeology

Archaeology is the study of prehistoric or historic peoples and cultures by investigating their artifacts and other material remains.

This includes the recovery and study of material objects, such as graves, buildings, tools, artworks, and human remains. Archaeologists rely on these physical remnants as clues to the development of human culture.

The goals of archaeology are to document and explain the origins and development of human culture, understand cultural history, record cultural evolution, and study human behavior and ecology, for both prehistoric and historic societies.
