EMPLOYERS:
The Community Justice Center Employment Program is a unique partnership between Clark County Corrections, Offender Employment Services/Washington State Employment Security, Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC), and the Clark County Sheriff's Office Jail Work Center. We offer job development, direct services, and community resource referrals to job seekers with conviction history. The program is housed at the Community Justice Center, located at 9105-B NE Highway 99, Vancouver, WA 98665.
Job development is the cornerstone of the program. We are always on the lookout for employers who would like to learn more about the benefits of hiring this population. Incentives such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and the Washington State Bonding Program are available. In addition, the Community Justice Programs Coordinators and the probation officer work as a team to provide support to both the employer and the client. We are available for both one-on-one group meetings to introduce the program to interested employers.
JOB SEEKERS:
Direct services include job search counseling and referrals to employers. We work in partnership with WorkSource to refer clients to appropriate classes to build their skill levels. Weekly "Job Clubs" at the CJC help keep job seekers on track and provide referrals to new job leads.
Many job seekers with conviction history need assistance to access community resources, such as housing and clothing. The CJC resource center provides information on a variety of topics, ranging from food assistance to the Driver's License Restoration Program. The CJC Clothes Closet accepts donations of usable business attire, which is then distributed to clients on job search.
Statistics confirm that assisting people with conviction history to obtain meaningful employment, or the education and skills they need to find living wage jobs, provides far more long-term benefits to the community than the costs of such programs. For more information, please contact:
