About the District Court

District Court is the court of limited jurisdiction. It serves as the trial court for misdemeanors and infractions as well as small claims and civil law suits involving amounts up to $75,000.

Approximately 58,687 cases are filed and adjudicated yearly. Traffic related cases comprised 37% of the caseload. The Court in an effort to resolve the caseload problem have explored alternative processes or projects such as the Driver's License Restoration, Night Court and the creation of specialized courts to address the situation.
