Martin Snell, AICP
With 20 years of local government experience, Marty is the Community Development Director and is responsible for overseeing the following programs: Animal Protection and Control, Building Safety, Code Enforcement, Development Services, the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Permit Center. Marty reports to the County Administrator and works very closely with the Board of Clark County Commissioners on development, environmental and land use issues. Prior to this position, Marty was the Clark County Community Planning Director, where he oversaw the county’s growth management program.
Before working for Clark County, Marty spent a combined 15 years with the cities of Camas and Washougal, the former for nearly ten years. In both cities he managed the current and long-range planning and development activities and worked closely with Planning Commissions and City Councils.
Marty has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Western Washington University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Portland State University. Professionally, he is a member of the American Planning Association, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and has served as an Executive Board member and President to the Washington City Planning Directors Association. Marty is currently serving as Western Vice President to the Washington State Association of County and Regional Planning Directors, an affiliate of the Washington State Association of Counties.
Marty is a ‘dual’ Northwest native in that he was born in Portland, Oregon and was raised in Camas, Washington. When asked to recount some noteworthy memories of his work experience, he’ll share with you his successes (and challenges) with comprehensive plan updates. Outside of work, Marty enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
