Martin Snell, AICP
With 20 years of local government experience, Marty is the Community Development director and responsible for overseeing the following programs: Animal Protection and Control, Building Safety, Code Enforcement, Development Services, Fire Marshal’s Office; and Permit Center. Marty reports to the County Manager and works closely with the Board of County Councilors on development, environmental and land use issues. Prior to this position, Marty was the Clark County Community Planning director, where he oversaw the county’s growth management program.
Before working for Clark County, Marty spent a combined 15 years with the cities of Camas and Washougal, the former for nearly 10 years. In both cities, he managed the current and long-range planning and development activities and worked closely with Planning Commissions and City Councils.
Marty has a Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning from Western Washington University and a Master of Public Administration from Portland State University. Professionally, he is a member of the American Planning Association and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and has served as an Executive Board member and President to the Washington City Planning Directors Association. Marty is currently serving as Western Vice President to the Washington State Association of County and Regional Planning Directors, an affiliate of the Washington State Association of Counties.
Marty is a ‘dual’ Northwest native -- he was born in Portland, Ore. and was raised in Camas, Wash. When asked to recount some noteworthy memories of his work experience, he’ll share his successes (and challenges) with comprehensive plan updates. Outside of work, Marty enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
