Image Elementary School’s ‘Green Team’ receives Mariners tickets
Vancouver, WA – Students from Image Elementary School will enjoy free Seattle Mariners tickets in recognition of their work to promote waste reduction and resource conservation.
Six students and two teachers representing the school’s “Green Team” will attend Sunday’s game against the Florida Marlins at Safeco Field in Seattle.
During the game, the Image Green Team will receive its second level of certification from Washington Green Schools, along with a Washington Green Schools flag.
The non-profit Green Schools program provides resources and tools for students, teachers and community members to increase resource conservation and encourage waste reduction in schools. Washington Green Schools receives support from government agencies, individuals, businesses and foundations.
Image’s Green Team received the free tickets after winning a drawing among eligible Green Schools participants. The Mariners are providing discounted group seating at Sunday’s game to other Green Schools students across the state as part of an event to recognize and promote environmental sustainability.
Image, which joined the Green Schools program in the 2009-10 school year, is one of only nine Washington schools and the first elementary in Clark County to receive the second-level certification. It is in Evergreen Public Schools.
Image qualified by completing an in-depth waste audit of the garbage generated at the school and making a series of changes to improve recycling efforts.
Clark County is a founding partner of Washington Green Schools, which the Washington State Recycling Association honored in May as Recycler of the Year for School Programs.
In Clark County, 37 schools participate in Washington Green Schools, the highest total among Washington’s 39 counties.
