County sets public hearings Nov. 1 and Nov. 22 on shoreline plan
Vancouver, WA – Two public hearings are scheduled in November for the Board of County Commissioners to consider a proposed shoreline master plan to update an existing plan adopted in 1974.
The hearing schedule is:
Tuesday, Nov. 1, 6 p.m.: Battle Ground City Hall, 109 SW First St.
Tuesday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m.: Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver
Written comments may be submitted to boardcom@clark.wa.gov or sent to the Board at Public Service Center, P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver, WA 98666-5000. The draft plan is online at http://www.clark.wa.gov/planning/land_use/shoreline.html.
A state law, the Shoreline Management Act, requires local jurisdictions to prepare plans to cover areas defined as “shorelines of the state.” The goals are to promote uses that need to be located on water bodies, protect the environment and provide public access to shorelines.
The cities of Battle Ground, Camas, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver and Washougal and the town of Yacolt have teamed up with Clark County to draft shoreline plans consistent with each other. Each jurisdiction must adopt its own program by Dec. 1. When adopted, the plans will guide development along large creeks, rivers and lakes.
