On May 14, the Clark County Elections Department mailed 68,000+ voter registration identification cards to voters. Each county voter who had one or more of their voting districts change or was moved into a different voting precinct was sent a new card.
In addition to the state legislative district changes approved by the State Legislature in February, 2012, the Clark County Commissioners, the Commissioners in the three port districts located in the County and the Clark Public Utility District Commissioners all approved redistricting changes in 2011. The redistricting of these jurisdictions was the result of the 2010 U.S. Census.
In 2011, the State Legislature passed legislation requiring that all voting precincts in Washington contain 1,500 or fewer registered voters. As a result of this new requirement, over 50 Clark County precincts were reduced in size and 28 new precincts were created.
All of these changes have now been completed and the new registration cards were sent to voters along with a letter explaining the reason for the new card.
If any voter who received a new voter registration identification card has any questions they can contact the County Elections Department by calling (360) 397-2345 or by emailing elections@clark.wa.gov.
