Vancouver, WA – Seventeen businesses will be honored next week for their commitment to environmental protection by participating in Clark County’s Green Business Program.

The third annual Green Business Showcase will recognize new program participants, as well as businesses that continue to reduce energy use, promote recycling, manage polluted storm runoff and implement other sustainable practices.

The event is set for 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site’s Artillery Barracks, 600 Hatheway Road. Sponsors are Clark County Environmental Services, Vancouver Business Journal and Waste Connections Inc.

Although the showcase is geared toward businesses, it also is open to the public. Cost is $10, which includes hors d’oeuvres.

The first half of the event will be an informal reception when attendees can talk with representatives from participating businesses, examine informational tables about the Green Business Program and its participants, and enjoy refreshments.

The second half will include speakers from participating businesses, an awards ceremony for inaugural businesses and the premiere of the program’s 2014 video.

“The Green Business program has grown considerably in the last year,” said Don Benton, Environmental Services director. “It’s always an honor to meet new and existing members of the program, learn about their innovative businesses and celebrate their accomplishments.”

The 2014 Green Business Program includes large employers, such as Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, as well as smaller boutique businesses. Nearly 50 businesses have participated in the innovative program during its three-year history.

Registration is required for the April 16 showcase. To register, go to the Green Business Program’s website, www.clarkgreenbiz.com.
