Washington State Department of Parks will be monitoring the lake water at Battle Ground Lake State Park beginning the week of June 21 and every two weeks throughout the summer for the presence of E. coli, to ensure safe and healthy recreation for those who swim or play in the lake.
Why monitor Battle Ground Lake?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), E-coli has been identified as the most common cause of diarrhea in humans. It causes watery diarrhea, with associated cramps and frequently a low-grade fever.
The lake will be considered no longer safe for swimming if water samples exceed 236 per 100 milliliter.
