An adequate source of safe drinking water is essential

This program assures that Clark County residents and visitors have safe drinking, bathing and wash water through:

  • monitoring small public (Group B) water systems
  • reviewing and approving plans for new small water systems
  • participating with Washington State Department of Health in review of larger public water systems
  • developing a non-community water program
  • reviewing and evaluating community systems
  • participating in land use reviews for new land divisions

Water unit staff also:

  • inspects and tests all new private wells for adequate water availability to meet Growth Management Regulations
  • ensures that well seals are properly installed
  • ensures correct well decommission practices are followed
  • tags wells for future identification and monitoring
  • provides advice to individual well or water system owners
  • inspects and/or samples water in public swimming pools and spas and natural swimming areas in Clark County
  • conducts investigations in response to complaints about problems with public water systems
