Food Worker Testing and Permitting

A food worker card must be obtained by anyone working in the food service industry who prepares or works with food. Clark County Environmental Public Health Services issues the food worker cards, which are valid for two years.

Testing Process

A food worker can obtain a card by paying a $10.00 permit fee, watching a 1/2 hour training video, and passing a test. Applicants may watch the training video at the health department or on the internet. Internet applicants must print and bring the completed training certificate provided at the end of the training to register for the test. All testing is done at the health department.

Required for a food worker permit:

  • $10.00 permit fee. The fee must be paid by cash or check, and must be paid at the time of registration and prior to testing.
  • Photo identification required at the time of registration.
  • Food worker applicants who have completed the internet training must bring the certificate of completion.
  • Successful completion of food worker test. The testing is done on a computer and at the health department.

Registration, fee collection, and testing is done on a "first come, first served" basis. The complete process, including watching the video at the health department, takes approximately one hour. Applicants who bring in a certificate of completion should spend less than one-half hour.

(No children or guests will be allowed into the testing area)
