Food service education and inspection ensures safe and healthy restaurant meals

A food establishment is any business that sells food or beverages:

  • Bars and taverns
  • Convenience food markets
  • Delicatessens
  • Espresso carts
  • Grocery stores
  • Bakeries
  • Mobile food trucks
  • Restaurants
  • Schools or cafeterias
  • Special events:
    • Community festivals
    • County Fair
    • Farmers' markets
    • Summer league baseball games
    • Etc.

Food Safety unit:

  • Assures, promotes and instills proper food handling procedures and environment in food establishments, through regular inspections, enforcement of state and local regulations and policies and licensing
  • Investigates food-related complaints and food-borne illnesses
  • Educates, tests and licenses food workers
  • Consults to food establishment management
  • Reviews new food establishment construction plans
  • Approves all new food service equipment

To report foodborne illness

If you become ill and suspect the source to be food that you ate or bought at a local food establishment, you may report the illness and file a complaint. Please contact Clark County Environmental Public Health division at (360) 397-8083.
