The health department maintains orderly and secure birth, death, and client health records |
The Records unit organizes, maintains and secures client medical records and health department administrative records. Staff in the unit also process death records for citizens of Clark County, and birth certificates for citizens born in the state of Washington.
Other duties include:
- Developing and maintaining effective records management systems
- Storing and retrieving records
- Destroying records as directed by state and federal law
The mission of the Records unit is to provide the best customer service possible to the community by:
- Ensuring accurate data collection on all death certificates in Clark County for health statistics
- Ensuring timely issuance of burial permits to facilitate the burial process.
- Securing, storing and retrieving all Health Department records in a manner to ensure confidentiality and safety of sensitive information.

The fee for each certificate is $20.00. Public Health is not authorized to confirm birth or death information at no cost.
