Historic buildings and properties are the cornerstone of Clark County heritage and culture. They are the legacy of the spirited settlers and residents who shaped the land and the history of the region.
Older buildings showcase unique architectural styles and technical innovations. They are also a symbol of the pioneers' creativity and ingenuity.
Today, preservation of these historic structures is also an important part of the county's future. You can view some of Clark County's historic structures on our walking tour and driving tour, or by visiting the Tour through Time web site.
Preservation efforts can rejuvenate commercial districts, enhance livability, and inspire us to save significant sites in our neighborhoods and towns. Well-preserved buildings, with diverse architectural styles, are a source of community pride.
Although Clark County is rich in properties of the past, the future of historic preservation is up to us. Historic preservation programs rely on citizen involvement to protect and restore historic sites in our community. You can support historic preservation by:
- Nominating your historic home to the county, state or national registers.
- Encouraging friends to research the history of their homes.
- Visiting historic homes and sites.
- Attending historic preservation workshops and seminars.
- Contributing to preservation programs and events.
