Vancouver, WA – A series of open houses starting May 16 will present the latest information and technical reports about a proposal to make more land available to meet the projected need for homes and jobs through 2024.

The proposal is part of an ongoing effort to revise the county’s 2004 Comprehensive Growth Management Plan and prepare for a population of 584,300 in 2024 compared with 391,500 in 2005.

A key part the proposal is the county’s 2006 “preferred alternative” for urban growth boundaries to include new areas for urban uses and densities. In recent months, the “preferred alternative” has been studied for potential impacts on the environment, transportation, agricultural lands and capital facilities, such as schools, parks and utilities.

Results of those studies will be available at each open house. County staff also will be available to answer questions. Each session will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as follows:

• May 16: Vancouver, Clark County Elections building, 1408 Franklin St.

• May 22: Dollars Corner, Fire District #11, 21609 NE 72nd Ave.

• May 23: Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, Rose F. Besserman Community Room, 3510 SE 164th Ave.

The Planning Commission and Board of Clark County Commissioners will examine the studies and conduct public hearings later this spring to consider changing the boundaries and updating written policies that are part of the county’s formal plan to comply with the Washington State Growth Management Act.
