Vancouver, WA – From community gardens and eight miles of carrots to a rain barrel demonstration — various interim projects are under way at Clark County’s 78th Street farm, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 19. The farm is located at 1919 N.E. 78th St., Vancouver.
Visitors will be able to take a hayride tour around the property or follow a self-guided walking tour that features:
• Terraced food garden
• Master Gardener projects
• Riparian/Wetland demonstration garden, with examples of native plants
• Food Bank carrots
• WSU/Clark County Extension rain barrel demonstration
• Interactive antique farm equipment by Fort Vancouver Antique Equipment Assoc.
• Final concept plan for the property on display
Clark County Commissioner Marc Boldt will be driving the tractor taking visitors on hayrides. One of the highlights will be a visit to the top viewpoint on the farm where on a clear day you can see Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier (and perhaps even Mount Adams). Hayrides will leave at 11 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.clark.wa.gov/78wsu/index.html.
The 78th Street farm is one of 14 farms that will be available for tours on Sept. 19 as part of WSU Harvest Celebration 2009. Farm descriptions and a printable map are available online at http://clark.wsu.edu/.
