Vancouver, WA – The Clark County STASHA (Strong Teens Against Substance Hazards and Abuse) Peer Education Program is recruiting youth to fill vacant positions for the 2012/13 program year. STASHA Peer Educators are dedicated to addressing alcohol and other drug issues among youth in Clark County.

The goals of the program include the following:

Promote awareness through outreach and educational programs.
Advise various county groups on how best to address substance abuse at a community level.
Support programs and policies that minimize abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Peer educators (age 12-19) represent diverse geographic regions and populations of the county. The group is comprised of up to 20 youth. Representatives include those who have never used drugs or alcohol, youth with past experimentation/use and youth who have completed treatment and are now in recovery. Youth serve a one-year term and commit to attending evening meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month.

To be eligible, youth must be Clark County residents and have an interest in sharing their opinions and perspectives about substance abuse prevention. Training is provided.

Youth from all cultures, ethnicities and abilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Interested youth must complete an application and participate in an interview process.
