Section of NE Washougal River Road to close for bridge replacement
County staff to present details, answer questions June 13 during open house
Vancouver, WA – Clark County Public Works is preparing to select a private contractor to replace Cougar Creek Bridge (#1409) on Northeast Washougal River Road. When work begins this summer, a short section of the road will be closed for about 15 weeks.
The project will replace the 27-foot-long bridge that crosses Cougar Creek just upstream from its confluence with the Washougal River. During construction, traffic will detour around the construction zone, between Mileposts 5.1 and 5.2, adding about 5 minutes to each trip. Public Works will host an informal open house to explain the project Wednesday, June 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Washougal City Hall, 1701 C St. Fire, police and school representatives are expected to participate. Anyone interested may drop by to get more information.
Cougar Creek Bridge is a timber bridge built in 1935 and partially rebuilt in 1959. It is one of only two remaining wood bridges among Clark County’s 78 bridges. East County Fire & Rescue is prepared to send crews to either side of Cougar Creek during construction.
