Commissioners appoint new Planning Commission member

Vancouver, WA Ė The Board of County Commissioners has appointed Battle Ground resident Karl Johnson to the Clark County Planning Commission. He will serve a four-year term starting in January.
Johnson is a teacher at Summit View Middle School, an alternative school in the Battle Ground School District. Earlier, he worked as a manager at Johnson Builders and was owner and manager of Pro-Fit Development, both construction companies in Roseburg, Ore.
Johnson has served as a football and wrestling coach at various area schools and clubs. He was named Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year for 2009 and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Region 4 Coach of the Year in 2003.
He earned a bachelorís degree in social science and masterís in teaching at Washington State University. Earlier this year, he completed an Administrative Credential at City University.
The board selected Johnson because of his varied background and community service.
Johnson and his wife, Julianne, have 10 children ages 1 to 28.
The Planning Commission consists of seven county residents who advise the county commissioners on land-use issues.
The commission typically conducts a formal public hearing on the third Thursday of each month. Hearings and work sessions are held in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver.
Other Planning Commission members are Dick Deleissegues, Valerie Uskoski, Steve Morasch, Eileen Qutub, Ron Barca and Jim Gizzi.
