Vancouver, WA – Gail Haskett of the Washington State Council on Aging will discuss the role of the council and its legislative priorities when she meets with the Clark County Commission on Aging on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The meeting will be 4:30-6 p.m. in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open to the public, and a chance for Clark County residents to share concerns about needs of local residents.

Appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire, Haskett represents western Washington on the council and chairs its policy and research committee. The council focuses on issues concerning seniors and people with disabilities.

Haskett is founder and president of Northwest Healthcare and Aging Resources. She is a gerontologist, certified care manager, aging-in-place specialist and aging consultant. She developed three hospice centers, founded two retirement communities, and has owned businesses related to senior services. Haskett is a member of the National Association of Geriatric Care Managers, American Society on Aging and National Guardianship Association.

Following a national trend, Clark County’s population of 60+ is growing and projected to almost double by 2030. The Board of County Commissioners appointed the aging commission, an advocacy panel, to help the county and local cities implement an Aging Readiness Plan, which has 91 strategies about housing, transportation, recreation, lifestyle choices, support services and civic and social engagement.
