Vancouver, WA – A group of community partners will sponsor an educational fair this weekend to help local families learn skills and techniques to save money and prevent pollution.

The Green Neighbors Do-It-Yourself Fair will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Clark College, Gaiser Hall, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.

“The fair will help people learn how to be more self-sufficient and save money by using environmentally friendly ways to maintain yards, homes and household belongings,” said Sally Fisher, program coordinator for Clark County Environmental Services.

The event will include workshops on rain-friendly landscaping, bicycle basics, gardening with children, raising chickens, eco-roofs, computer maintenance, basic plumbing and wiring, tree planting, composting, nature-scaping, sheetrock repair, and potential risks from radon, mold and lead.

The fair will include exhibits from local agencies and companies.

Environmental Services is sponsoring the event in cooperation with Bad Monkey Bikes, Cadet Manufacturing, Clark County Technology Services, Clark County Public Health, Corwin Beverage, Frito-Lay, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Main Street Pet Solutions, Master Composters/Recyclers, Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers, Subway, Urban Forestry, Vancouver Watershed Alliance and Watershed Stewards.

In addition, Clark Public Utilities will sponsor a compact fluorescent bulb exchange. Each person can drop off burned-out bulbs that are not broken and receive up to six new bulbs. No fluorescent tubes or fixtures will be accepted.
