Restaurant reopens after extensive cleaning to prevent spread of viral illness
Vancouver, WA— Clark County Public Health today lifted a closure order for Billygan’s Roadhouse restaurant, at 13200 NE Hwy 99. The restaurant was closed February 22 for extensive cleaning to prevent spread of viral gastroenteritis after 22 patrons reported symptoms.
“We appreciate the restaurant’s cooperation in cleaning and sanitizing surfaces and equipment and removing sources of potentially contaminated food. We believe transmission no longer threatens patrons and employees and we’re pleased that service can resume,” said Dr. Alan Melnick, county Health Officer. “We hope anyone who became ill has recovered. This type of illness is common during the winter, but fortunately most people get better within a day or two.”
Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain. Such illnesses can cause dehydration in infants, young children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems or other health conditions. Those people are advised to contact a health care provider about managing symptoms.
Food contamination can occur when people fail to properly wash their hands after using the bathroom. To prevent disease from spreading, make sure everyone washes their hands with soap and water after using the bathroom and before eating. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers do not kill some viruses.
When sanitizing surfaces, the best disinfectants are those containing bleach.
