Home modification, energy efficiency tips allow aging-in-place - presentation on April 24

Vancouver, WA – Ideas about home modification, energy efficiency and green building will be topics of a Wednesday, April 24, presentation sponsored by the Commission on Aging.

The presentation is designed to help residents learn how to make their homes comfortable and practical as they grow older.

It will be 6-8 p.m. in the Columbia Room at Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St.

Speakers will be Christine Evoniuk of Trusted Transitions NW and Mike Selig of Planet Clark.

Evoniuk has combined her education and experience as an occupational therapist and interior designer to create her new business, Trusted Transitions NW of Vancouver. She promotes independence and healthy living environments through approaches that increase a home’s accessibility and preserve our natural resources. Evoniuk is a certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and certified Green Professional (CGP).

Mike Selig is the program coordinator for Clark County Weatherization and Planet Clark Outreach and Education programs. For more than 20 years, Selig worked as a journeyman carpenter specializing in building custom homes, renovations and additions. Clark County anticipates rapid growth among its older adult population in the coming years. A recent poll revealed 85 percent of older adults want to remain in their homes as they age to save money and keep loved-ones close.
