Vancouver, WA – A section of Northeast 99th Street in Hazel Dell will close briefly for paving and striping this weekend as part of Clark County’s ongoing program to preserve roads.

At 10 p.m. Friday, July 19, Granite Construction Co. of Vancouver, the county’s contractor, will close Northeast 99 Street from Highway 99 to about 300 feet west of Northeast Seventh Avenue. On- and off-ramps at Interstate 5 also will close. The road is scheduled to open by 5 a.m. Monday, July 22.

Highway 99 and Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue will remain open during paving. Detour signs will be placed on both roads directing drivers to east-west routes on Northeast 78th Street and Northeast 117th Street.

All businesses along the affected section of Northeast 99th Street can be reached using side streets. Clark County has distributed more than 100 brochures (PDF) to businesses about the upcoming closure.

C-Tran will detour five bus routes during the paving. Additional bus information is available at www.c-tran.com/alerts/detail/id/211.

The county also has coordinated with organizers of the Relay For Life of Vancouver WA, which will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, to 10 a.m. Sunday, July 21, at Columbia River High School, 800 N.W. 99th St. People participating in the event can bypass the closure by detouring onto Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue from Northeast 78th Street or Northeast 117th Street.

The work could be rescheduled, depending on the weather. Residents should check the county’s website, www.clark.wa.gov/publicworks/roads/summer.html, for schedule changes due to rainy conditions.

Asphalt overlays add 15 to 20 years to the life of a road.
