Vancouver, WA – Telehealth will be the topic of a Wednesday, Oct. 2, educational conference hosted by the Clark County Commission on Aging.

Telehealth means to provide health care distantly using technology, which has the potential to improve health care delivery in a variety of ways. They include helping seniors age in place, living independently as long as possible.

The free conference is an opportunity to learn about how Telehealth can benefit Clark County residents. Telehealth is a strategy of the county’s Aging Readiness Plan.

The conference will be 7:30 a.m. to noon at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center’s Education Center, 400 N.E. Mother Joseph Place. The conference is free, but please
register at www.clark.wa.gov/aging or call (360) 397-2280 ext. 4913.

Conference presenters include: Dr. Miles Ellenby of the Telehealth Program at Oregon Health & Science University; Nancy Voorhees of Inland Northwest Health System, Northwest Telehealth; Vanessa Leigh-McLaughlin of EdithForge and WelcomeHome Health; David Kelly of Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington; Tracy Zitzelberger of Oregon Center for Aging and Technology at OHSU; and, Randy Scheel of Fort Vancouver Convalescent Center, Caretique and The Park Lido.

Following a national trend, Clark County’s population of 60+ is projected to almost double by 2030. The Board of County Commissioners appointed the aging commission to help the county and local cities implement an Aging Readiness Plan. It has 91 strategies about housing, transportation, recreation, lifestyle choices, support services and civic and social engagement.
