Vancouver, WA – The Board of County Commissioners today unanimously selected Ron Barca of Heisson and John D. Blom of Vancouver to continue serving on the Clark County Planning Commission while the county reviews and updates its Comprehensive Growth Management Plan.

Barca was first appointed in 2000 and currently serves as chair of the seven-member commission. He is a long-time resident of rural Clark County, tree farm owner and Portland-based employee of Boeing Commercial Aircraft specializing in lean manufacturing. His new appointment will continue through 2017.

“His knowledge and experience in land-use planning will be extremely valuable over the next few years,” said Board Chair Tom Mielke. “We are fortunate to have him volunteering to devote many more hours to issues affecting every business and household in the county.”

Blom was first appointed last July to fill the unexpired term of Dick Deleissegues, who resigned after serving since 1998. Blom lives in the Burnt Bridge Creek neighborhood, works as a real estate broker and is active in professional associations. Previously, he was an analyst at the Army’s Combat Studies Institute in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. His new appointment will continue through 2019.

“We are all impressed with John’s fresh thinking, teamwork and diplomatic approach to weighing the interests of residents and businesses to find solutions that work for the common good,” said Mielke.

The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board on land-use planning, zoning and development in areas outside of any city boundary. Topics other than growth management include roads, public facilities planning, development regulations and county ordinances.
