Road crews continue plowing, sanding in response to heavy snow

Vancouver, WA – Public Works has about 25 pieces of equipment out Friday morning plowing county roads and applying gravel to hills, curves and other trouble spots.

Packed snow is reported across much of the county following Thursday’s storm. Some of the lighter accumulations are in parts of southeast Clark County near Washougal.

With more snow forecasted, drivers should avoid travel, if possible, and use traction devices. Commuters should expect slow travel speeds and significant delays.

County road crews are working 12-hour shifts to provide around-the-clock coverage. The county’s response will continue until the arrival of warmer temperatures triggers widespread melting of packed snow.

Public Works sprayed deicer on major thoroughfares earlier this week. Once the storm arrived on Thursday morning, crews switched to plowing and sanding.

Waste Connections has canceled Friday’s collection of garbage and recycling. Customers can set out a double amount of garbage and recycling the following Friday (Feb. 14), and it will be picked up at no additional charge.

Extra garbage can be placed in plastic bags and extra recycling in paper bags or boxes. Anyone who did not have their garbage and recycling picked up Thursday also can set out a double amount for their regular pickup next week.
