Vancouver, WA – As haying season gets into full swing, Clark County and the volunteer Adopt-A-Horse Program are seeking donations of hay to feed horses relinquished to Animal Protection and Control.

The county and program’s hay barn is now nearly empty. The partners are asking not only for immediate donations of eastern grass hay or good horse quality, weed-free local hay, but also for donations throughout the year.

“If you’re about to cut your field or order hay from eastern Washington or Oregon, please consider setting some aside for animals now being cared for because of neglect or abuse,” said Paul Scarpelli, Animal Control manager. “Once these horses are no longer in the program, others will be. Please keep them in mind as the months go on.”

Residents also can support the animal food drive with monetary donations or volunteer labor to pick up or unload hay bales.

For more information or to arrange a donation, contact Lori Harris of the Adopt-A-Horse Program at (360) 798-3515 or harris2885@yahoo.com.

The Adopt-A-Horse Program places relinquished horses in volunteer foster homes while program volunteers work to find them loving permanent homes. The program runs entirely on donations. Expenses include feed, veterinary care, vaccinations, hoof care, dental work, supplies and equipment.

The county also assists cattle owners with emergency, short-term donations of hay.
