Land and Environmental Art series from arts commission, county

Vancouver, WA – The Clark County Arts Commission, with support from the Clark County Clean Water Commission, is launching a series of discussions entitled Land and Environmental Art.

The first event will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. A video called A Place for People will tell the story of Mill Creek Earthworks in Kent, Wash. It was designed more than 25 years ago and serves as a storm water retention basin, park and art work. Former Kent Arts Commissioner Carolyn Wyley will talk about how the arts commission took on the project.

The second event will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Vancouver Community Library, Columbia Room, 901 C St. Artist Erin Dengerink will talk about public art as a gathering place or commons. She will discuss how artworks can be healing, cleaning polluted land or water while providing a community space. Her talk will briefly cover the history of the earthworks art movement.

The third event is scheduled for May 1. The future of water will be the focus of this discussion at Vancouver’s Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way. Details will follow.
