The Clark County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) raises community awareness of the county’s historic and cultural resources and serves as the county’s primary resource on historic preservation. The HPC initiates and maintains the Clark County Historic Register and reviews proposed design changes to registered properties.

The HPC consists of a minimum of 5 members appointed by the Board of County Councilors. Members must have demonstrated special interest, experience or knowledge in history, historic preservation, architecture or related disciplines.

Historical Promotion Grants Program

RCW 36.22.170 allows the county to impose a $1 surcharge to be used, at the discretion of the county council, to promote historical preservation or historical programs, including preservation of historical documents. To make grant funding recommendations, the Historical Promotion Grants Program (HPG) was initiated in 2006.

Each year, the Board of County Councilors awards grants to encourage historic preservation and programs, including the preservation of historic documents.

To apply for a grant, download the Historical Promotion Grants application form or contact Jacqui Kamp at (360) 397-2280 or jacqui.kamp@clark.wa.gov.

The commission reviews applications in the fall and submits recommendations to the board in November. Final grant awards occur in December, and funding is available in January.
