Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Marriage License department will increase staffing two days next week and add Saturday hours as the state law legalizing same-gender marriage takes effect.

Beginning Thursday, Dec. 6, same-gender couples in Washington may apply for a marriage license. Auditors’ offices throughout the state expect an influx of couples seeking licenses, and are gearing up to accommodate them.

In Clark County, the Marriage License department will extend office hours Thursday, Dec. 6, and Friday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 8, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.

The marriage license office is on the second floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Anyone standing in line when the office closes each of those three days will be given a numbered ticket. If a person or couple returns the following business day with the ticket, they will be placed at the head of the line.

Auditor Greg Kimsey urges couples to complete a license application online before coming to the office. Applications can be found at www.clarkmarriagelicense.org.

Under state law, couples must wait three days after receiving a license and get married in Washington. Both applicants must come into the office to complete the marriage license process.

Licenses cost $64, and applicants must pay in cash. No credit or debit cards or checks will be accepted. Applicants also must bring current photo identification and Social Security numbers, and know in which states their parents were born and their mothers’ maiden names as they appeared on their birth certificates.
