Vancouver, WA – Commissioner Tom Mielke, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, is scheduled to present 2014 State of the County remarks on Thursday, March 6, along with Commissioners David Madore and Steve Stuart.

The free event will be open to the public 2-4 p.m. at the Clark County Square Dance Center, 10713 NE 117th Ave. (SR 503). Light refreshments will be available at 2 p.m., with speakers and presentations starting at 2:45 p.m.

Commissioners urge those attending to bring non-perishable food items, household supplies or financial donations for local food banks, continuing a practice in place for the past few years.

“We are hearing from community service and nonprofit agencies that our neighbors in need are best served when we help put food on tables for local families,” said Mielke.

The local Community Action Advisory Board recently surveyed 850 residents living in poverty and found food to be their greatest need. Those surveyed had an average income of about $1,200 per month.

During the program March 6, the commissioners also will recognize volunteers for extraordinary efforts in 2013.

For those unable to attend, the program may be viewed later on CVTV (Clark-Vancouver Television) Channels 21 and 23.
