Vancouver, WA – Even as the economy slowly recovers, Clark County will again encourage donations for emergency food boxes at the 2014 State of the County gathering Thursday, March 6.
The event will open to the public 2-4 p.m. at the Clark County Square Dance Center, 10713 N.E. 117th Ave. Donations will help supply the Clark County Food Bank, which has distributed more than 121,000 emergency food boxes in a recent 12-month period.
Requested items include non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, pasta, rice, tuna and canned fruit and vegetables. Families who receive the food boxes also can use pet supplies, school supplies, household cleaning supplies and reusable grocery bags. Financial contributions also are appreciated.
People attending the 2012 and 2013 State of the County events donated approximately 1,000 pounds of food each year, and the Board of County Commissioners hopes to surpass that amount this year.
Chair Tom Mielke and Commissioners Steve Stuart and David Madore will speak at the event.
Light refreshments will be served at 2 p.m., and the formal program will start at 2:45 p.m. Commissioners will recognize volunteers for extraordinary efforts in 2013.
Driving directions from downtown Vancouver: Take State Route 500 east until it curves left, or north, and becomes State Route 503, or 117th Avenue. Drive north on 117th Avenue, and turn right into the Square Dance Center driveway.
For those unable to attend, the program can be viewed later on CVTV (Clark-Vancouver Television) Channels 21 and 23. Check www.cvtv.org for times.
