Freeholders to fill vacant District 3 seat, review entire draft charter
Marlia Jenkins, Budget Office
Vancouver, WA – The Clark County Board of Freeholders will vote to fill a vacancy on the board when members meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.
Filling the vacancy will be the last item on the board’s agenda.
The vacancy is due to the death of Freeholder Val Ogden of Commissioner District 3. She died April 9 at age 90.
Last November, five residents of each of the three county commissioner districts were elected as non-partisan freeholders. The Board of Freeholders’ task is to draft a home rule charter restructuring county government.
On Tuesday, the remaining four District 3 freeholders will nominate one or more residents of their district to fill Ogden’s seat. The nomination will be voted on by the full board.
The board also will vote on Chair Nan Henriksen’s temporary appointment of Freeholder Temple Lentz to fill the office of Secretary, which Ogden held.
Also Tuesday, the board will review the draft charter in its entirety for the first time. The final proposed charter will go to voters, likely in the fall general election.
Public comment periods at the beginning and end of meeting will be extended, if necessary.
