Vancouver, WA – Clark County residents will have a final opportunity this spring to safely dispose of household hazardous waste and other items at a free collection event Saturday.

It will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 24 in the south parking lot of C-Tran’s Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, 3510 S.E. 164th Ave.

Residents can drop off household hazardous waste, including pesticides, paints, solvents, thinners, motor oils and cleaners. Block foam, electronic equipment, old tires, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units, scrap metal and woody yard debris also will be accepted. Free shredding of financial records and other documents will be offered.

Residents are encouraged to bring a donation of nonperishable food for local food banks.

Green Neighbors, a Clark County Environmental Services program that promotes environmentally friendly and sustainable practices, sponsors free Saturday collection events. They are held in partnership with every city and town in the county and the Washington State Department of Ecology, which provides grant funding for the program.

“This will be our sixth and final spring event in what has been a phenomenally successful series,” said Don Benton, Clark County Environmental Services director. “So far, more than 1,000 people have brought in 80 tons for recycling and proper disposal.”

There are restrictions on what will be accepted. For example, tires must be removed from rims and only clean, dry polystyrene white No. 6 block foam (Styrofoam®) is accepted. For details, visit the Green Neighbors’ website, This program is open only to residents of Clark County, including its cities and town.

Three more collection events are scheduled later this year: Sept. 13 in west Vancouver; Sept. 20 in Hazel Dell; and Oct. 4 in Battle Ground.

Information on year-round disposal options is available at For additional information, call Environmental Services at (360) 397-2121 ext. 4352.
