Political Party Observer Training
Greg Kimsey, Clark County Auditor
Clark County Elections will be hosting their annual political party observer training on June 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Elections Conference Room at 1408 Franklin Street, Vancouver. This observer training is for all persons interested in participating as a political party observer during an election cycle.
No person shall serve as an observer unless he or she has received this training.
Election observer training provides an overview of ballot processing, including the inspection process and the ballot counting equipment.
Every election, the political parties assign certified citizens to witness various elections processes. From witnessing signature verification to inspection boards, the certified observer serves as a witness to ensure that voted ballots are counted as the voter intended, that no properly voted ballot is removed from the election process without authorization of the County Canvassing Board, and no other ballot is added to, or substituted for the legitimately voted ballots, except to duplicate damaged ballots. All political party observers shall also serve to witness the action of the other observers.
While it is the duty of the political parties to appoint their observers, we also invite the general public to attend even though they might not be assigned as an official observer.
