Video option to speed up minor building inspections in county
Jim Muir, Community Development
Vancouver, WA – Owners and contractors can finish residential building projects faster by opting for a new service from Clark County Community Development.
The service includes video calls to document corrections made in response to on-site inspections. Inspectors can approve such corrections the same day, according to Jim Muir, chief building official.
In addition, video calls can be used to inspect decks, minor remodels, roofing, siding and other small projects, including garages smaller than 750 square feet.
“This can really help keep projects moving forward quickly by reducing the time it could take for inspection, correction and re-inspection,” said Muir. “We will also facilitate minor adjustments during our video inspections to prevent the need for re-inspection and related fees.”
An inspector at the county’s Vancouver office is assigned to interact with customers who have electronic devices with real-time video capabilities. The inspector will direct participants to capture specific images needed to complete and approve video inspections.
“We are really working to make it easier and faster to get through permitting so builders can make the most of their time and folks can enjoy their improvements as soon as possible,” Muir said.
