If you are 65 years or older you may qualify for low or no-cost health insurance through Medicare or the Basic Health Plan.
Medicare
Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 years of age and older, some disabled people under 65 years of age, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure treated with dialysis or a transplant). Medicare is divided into two parts: Part A (hospital) insurance and Part B (medical) insurance.
Basic Health
If you don’t qualify for Medicare, you may be eligible for Basic Health. Basic Health is a state-sponsored program providing low-cost health care coverage through private health plans.

Basic Health is for Washington residents who are:
- Within Basic Health’s income guidelines.
- Not eligible for free or purchased Medicare.
- Not institutionalized at the time of enrollment.
- Not attending school full-time in the United States on a temporary student visa.
