What does healthy living mean to you?
Most people might describe it as an absence of disease. The World Health Organization definition of healthy living is the steps, actions and strategies one puts in place to achieve optimum health.

Chronic diseases have become the leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Here in Clark County, diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease contribute to 58% of deaths. Early detection and treatment are important factors in helping individuals to improve their quality of life when faced with these diseases.

However, many chronic diseases could be prevented or delayed through healthy lifestyle choices. Clark County communities have been actively working on ways to support changes at the personal, community and system level to make good health within reach of all residents.

Through a recent five-year Steps to a Healthier Clark County grant,  community partnerships have been formed to improve community walkability, access to healthy foods and smoke-free environments.  The focus is on making the healthy choice the easy choice.
