WIC can help you and your family purchase healthy food, fresh fruits and vegetables and infant formula.
Food packages
Families receive coupons to purchase WIC approved foods such as juice, iron-fortified cereal, eggs, cheese, milk, peanut butter, dried beans or peas, tuna, carrots and iron-fortified infant formula. Each of the WIC foods is rich in one or more of the following nutrients: protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C. A complete list of WIC approved food is available online or at your WIC office.
Beginning October 1, the WIC food packages will change to better meet the nutritional and cultural food needs of participants. Fresh fruits and vegetables will be added, along with a variety of other foods including tortillas, brown rice, soy-based beverages and canned salmon. These changes will provide less fat and cholesterol, more fiber and increase participant choices. More information >
Fruits and vegetables
The Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides coupons for locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at approved farmers markets in June, July and August. This program is only available to a portion of WIC families on a first come, first served basis.
Infant formula
For families that do not breastfeed, WIC provides supplemental formula covering a portion of an infant’s formula needs each month. Similac Advance and Isomil Advance are the primary WIC approved formulas. For a complete list of approved formulas see the Washington State WIC approved formulas list (PDF).
Formulas on the WIC approved list designated as “therapeutic” or “child nutritionals” require a request for medically necessary WIC approved formulas form (PDF) from your medical provider.
- WIC encourages breastfeeding for all babies. For information and support view our tips for successful breastfeeding (PDF) or contact a breastfeeding peer counselor at (360) 397-8040.
