Background
NE 119th Street Corridor: Improvements along NE 119th Street will be completed in multiple phases to increase safety and reduce congestion. The Phase I improvements from NE 11th Avenue through the intersection with NE 117th Avenue, will be constructed by a private developer this summer. The county will also construct an access road at the new signal at NE 112th Avenue, which will also serve Prairie High School. Other phases follow over the next several years.

Project description
Clark County Public Works is completing the preliminary design for Phase II improvements to the NE 119th Street corridor between NE 72nd Avenue and NE 87th Avenue. The 119th/72nd Avenue intersection has one of the highest accident rates in the urbanized area. The county will explore a variety of design options to deal with traffic safety. This project phase is in the design and environmental permitting process, with construction expected some time after 2011. The third phase between NE 87th Avenue and NE 111th Avenue is not scheduled.

Why is the county doing this project?
Improvements to the NE 119th Street corridor are required in part due to a Developer's Agreement to improve the intersections at NE 117th Avenue/SR 503 and at 72nd Avenue. Improvements will allow for the lifting of Urban Holding and will support economic development in the area while providing safer, more convenient travel.

Environmental improvements
The entire corridor is now in the environmental permitting process. Environmental enhancements at Curtain Creek will include replacing undersized culverts with a new crossing to allow for fish passage and improved flood plain storage. Mitigation improvements will extend the Curtain Creek green-belt, including publicly accessible trails.
