Project Description
This $3.2 million project will reshape about a half-mile of Curtin Creek and enhance 30 acres to provide improved wetland habitat. When construction work is completed this fall, the site will be replanted with native grasses and shrubs. This is the largest wetland enhancement to date in Clark County. |

Why is Clark County doing this project?
Two major road improvement projects on Northeast 72nd Avenue and St. Johns Road created new hard surfaces that increase requirements for management of stormwater runoff. The county identified Curtin Creek as an area that could receive and help clean the runoff while also providing much improved habitat for wildlife. |

Work provides many benefits
The new wetland will help clean stormwater runoff from roads which may carry pollution. The project will also remove an invasive plant species call reed canary grass and replace with native vegetation that will help clean water and improve wildlife habitat. When complete, the project will be fenced to protect plantings and prevent access that might damage the newly-created wetland. |
