Clark County Public Works has hired a contractor to construct a new bridge to replace the existing, and now closed, structure. The new bridge, spanning Salmon Creek at the same location, will have four travel lanes, a center median, bicycle lanes, curb/gutter and sidewalks. Currently, the contractor has begun site preparation, and is moving utilities such as sewer and water lines off the old bridge. These utilities will be on separate support structures during new bridge construction.
Work will include:
- Site preparation and moving utilities.
- Removal of the old bridge deck and support piers.
- Clearing debris in Salmon Creek left by the 1956 collapse and subsequent repairs.
- Road improvements on approaches to the bridge.
- Stream restoration and enhancement within the reaches Salmon Creek, up and down stream from the bridge.
- Removal or relocation of utilities, such as sewer and water lines and communications cables during construction and reinstallation on the new bridge. This work is already underway.
Demolition, new construction, stream restoration and utility installations will cost about $9.2 million,. Construction funding comes primarily from the federal financing distributed by the Bridge Replacement Advisory Council through the Washington State Department of Transportation.
